How long do you have to wait before you can put a tombstone on a grave?

Although there is no specific rule, how long you need to wait before placing a tombstone for a buried grave, as a guide number, it is recommended that you wait at least 6 months, if not longer. There are many reasons for this. The first reason is that the ground takes time to determine before a tombstone can be built. For the first six months, the tomb may still be sinking—in some cemeteries, this may be at risk for nearly a year. If a tombstone is placed on a sinking ground, it is likely to tilt forward.

There are also emotional reasons; a few months later, when the initial shock passes and the sad process moves forward a little bit, you will be more aware of what you want to engrave on the tombstone. The epitaph you choose will always exist, so it is worth taking the time to make sure it is correct.

Only registered cemetery owners have the legal right to replace tombstones. If anyone builds a monument without their support, the monument may be removed in accordance with the law supporting the removal of any unauthorized items from the cemetery.
