How about the coffins and tombs buried in ancient Greece?

Granite Headstones

Coffin:

Modern scholars have conducted a lot of excavation and careful research on Greek tombs, which makes it possible for us to fairly accurately describe the materials used in ancient Greek coffins, as well as various styles of coffins, tombs and monuments.

Early coffins were usually made of baked clay, but the text shows that cypress boxes were buried as a memorial for those Athenians who died in the war and their bodies were not found. The Greeks may also use stone coffins.

The production of baked clay coffins is very rough, which is to be expected. However, sometimes these pottery coffins are very ornately decorated. It is painted in bright colors, with lily leaves and palm trees, blooming thorn leaves and lotus flowers, as well as garlands, arabesques and intricate floral decorations.

Later, the coffin became more complex and durable. An interesting example is a children's coffin unearthed in Athens in the early 19th century. It has an oval shape and looks like a movable bathtub. Many utensils were found in the coffin and were taken away with the skeleton.

Tombs:

Many ancient Greek tombs were unearthed in the 19th and 20th centuries, and we can get a glimpse of their structure and types. For practical purposes, there are four types of tombs, each of which differs in general form. They are called stone pillars or pillars, stone pillars or pillars, trapezoidal or square tombs, temples or temple-like structures, there are also tombs that are just piles of mound. These mounds are usually found to be the richest burial sites because it may show a lot of wealth in the mounds.

These steles are slabs erected on the ground. They are usually made of marble and are usually shaped like small churches.

The second type of tomb is the Zion tomb or cylindrical tomb, which is very beautiful in shape, with a double-rooted base and an Ionian groove on the top.

The third part of the mausoleum is the so-called trapezoid. It is such a tomb to commemorate the resting place of the orator Isocrates and his immediate family.

The fourth part of the tomb has many characteristics of a Greek temple. The shrine is different from many small temples, except that its opening faces west, while the entrance of the temple faces the opposite direction.

The most popular scene carved on a Greek tomb is an ideal representation of the death scene. Occupation of the dead is also very popular, such as engraving a relief on the tomb of a knight who fell in battle, showing a knight riding a horse; or the image of an athlete, and his dog.
