Are Cemetery Headstones?

Remembrance is one of the most important human emotions.  Human commemoration emotion obtains catharsis through the association between objective things and historical events.  A Cemetery Headstones park is a park built to celebrate famous historical events or outstanding social figures.  Memorial space records the historical process of human civilization and is the reproduction of collective memory.

Lakewood Cemetery, 142 years old, faced a challenge: how to create a monumental space for the 21st century in a revered landmark setting.  

The Garden Cemetery project meets this challenge subtly, persistently and elegantly.  Covering two-thirds of the south-facing slope, the architectural style reveals an empty, peaceful landscape, with quiet reflecting pools, groves of native trees and contemplative niches -- a stark contemporary design that blends in with its historic setting.  

A new cemetery and reception center were integrated into the existing slope of the space.  Much of the complex fades from view along the street, with only 5,500 square feet of granite pavilions looming amid well-preserved oak samples.  The new Reflecting fountain is a zero-edge pool that is an inch-deep level on a layer of pavement on the plinth.  When it dries up in winter, it becomes an active square.  Mature large trees were preserved with windshovels, root pruning and sheet piling at the rear of the cemetery.  The terraced terrace eases the transition between the building and the landscape and opens up the possibility of a future memorial site.  

The green roof allows the beauty of the cemetery's "lawn plan" to seamlessly extend into a new landscape.  The integration between the building and the landscape is epitomized by the earthen mouldings with bronze frames, which contain skylights in the crypt.
