How to Design a Cemetery Monument?
As a designer, I will use design to learn and never forget.
To remember something profound,
Space for reflection, contemplation, recognition and remembrance.
For example, the Queensland Police Memorial
The newly built Queensland Police Memorial, located in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, provides visitors with a space to reflect, admire, identify and remember fallen police officers. The monument is made up of five folded arches that encourage visitors to walk through, exploring different perspectives and contrasting the green landscape in the distance.
The monument was designed by UAP with ceramist Kenji Uranishi as a design collaborator. A reference to the Chequered ribbon of the Australian Police Force, the monument features a nameplate that perpetuates the memory of those who gave their lives in the service of the community. Created by UAP's Brisbane studio, the monument creates a unique atmosphere of remembrance and contemplation within the arboretum.
