What does Gravestone Indicate?

The gravestone project is a cemetery in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and by far the largest cemetery in the Netherlands, covering 33 hectares and containing more than 28,000 graves.  It was built in three phases, in 1889,1915 and 1928.  It has a history of about 117 years and has undergone many changes during that time.  In 2001, it was updated again for new changes.  

Cemeteries gravestone are a mirror of society, reflecting social relations, individual and collective relations, as well as insights into nature and developments in the field of landscape design.  Therefore, the design of the cemetery does not consider the cemetery itself in isolation, but rather links the spatial intervention with the human emotion of grief, burial process, and remembrance.
